TN Marching Arts Message Board
I guess we've made it to this good old board. Check the next reply as well, aparently we're "BIG". Tuesday, September 28, 2004Late Night news and other stuff
Yahoo! News - 'Tonight Show' Succession Plan Wins Praise
How about that? Just saw him announce it on his show as well, it's the most serious I think Conan's ever been. He thanked Jay Leno and the NBC Network for letting him have this opportunity. Awesome news. Anyway, I saw "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" tonight. Such a "nice" movie. In fact, a great movie. Possibly an amazing movie, but it really does require a second viewing to sort it all out. I got the main idea, but still its a lot to take in. Not that that's a bad thing. Plus, David Cross is in it, if only for a few minutes. And Kirsten Dunst looks good. Very good. But she needs to not kiss old men, just me. Speaking of hot girls, I saw "Mean Girls" last night. I was sure that Lindsay Lohan would be in it, but I had no idea it would actually be pretty dang funny. I guess it makes sense, since Tina Fey was involved in writing it. Bye. Sunday, September 26, 2004I'd call it a band filled weekend
On Friday night I headed out to B-Wood to check out the homecoming football game. Well, really to see old friends and watch the band play, but it was incidentally at a place where some people were throwing a ball around a field. I saw all kinds of people from the class of '03, namely Andy who I haven't talked to in forever. So it was great to catch up with everyone, but as far as the band performance went, it wasn't anything too amazing. Which was kind of discouraging since the next day was BOA Murfreesboro. (See next paragraph).
I met up with the 'rents here at the house and then we joined the cheering parents at MTSU's Stadium. Brentwood pulled off a really great show (esp. Compared to the night before), but I guess it wasn't enough to get into finals. I hope that Anne Marie's senior year will be more successful than this weekend, and I really think the kids have the potential to make this another big year for Brentwood. Christy and Matt we're here in the 'boro, and it had been more than a year since I'd hung out with them. So that was another reunion from this weekend, as well as Preston being in town and coming out here too. The band of blue also played an exhibition at BOA. It was a huge crowd and they loved us. It was definitely a fun show to do. Then on Sunday, at 8 o'clock AM I had to get up and go to the Titans game with who else but the band. Once I got over the horrible sleep deprivation aspect, it was a great day over at the coliseum. We got seats right on the sideline and free hot dogs, which more than made up for the completely benign crowd during our halftime show. Needless to say I'm tired as bears on ice with no skates. (P.S. This is the most band-nerdish entry you will ever see on this site, I promise. It just so happens that most of my waking hours this weekend were spent on band-related activities. Enjoy the two pictures down in the next two entries.) Wednesday, September 22, 2004Auditions
I just got back from my first solo guitar audition, and it was in front of lots of percussionists. I can never play or think that clearly under pressure, but I did all right. (Oh, and I was the only guitarist auditioning, it was for the PASIC line). Funny thing, they asked if I would be willing to wear a wig...of course. This is a rock show, man. Also, take time to tune up before you play, don't rush things. Believe me. Always take the time to tune. (Alliteration).
I have a music theory exam tomorrow, and I think I need to get to sleep early more than I need to study. I'm gone over the material and I'll do a little more studying later but none of that 2 A.M. stuff tonight. It gets dark pretty early these days. It's the first day of Fall. But it was hotter today than Monday. So back to guitar stuff. I woke up from my nap today and my classical guitar was missing it's D-string. This kind of thing has happened before. Strings should break when you're playing the instrument, not when you're sleeping. Whatever. It's a 60's Bruno Conqueror. You work with what you've got. Tuesday, September 21, 2004I went to the bike shop
And it won't be done 'till Friday. Hopefully I can manage with parking for 2 1/2 days.
Not much else, but I have countless tests coming up starting on Thursday. Now we're talkin' college. I may have to study for these things... I've had way too much fast food recently. Not that I'm concerned with weight, that's not the issue. It's money. I just spend way too much on Wendy's every week, not to mention the occasional BK or Toot's here and there, plus I have all these fees to pay for this and that, and I have to buy stuff for drumline all the time. I pretty much will have to work at Sam Goody on Sundays if this keeps up. Not something to look foreward to. Maybe I could just stop eating good food and hit up the dining hall every day for every meal (like at OU, which by the way if I had the Super 20 I'd be going to the Oasis like EVERY DAY, yeah I still check my ohio.edu e-mail) I just made the stupidest away message ever: BroncoDS: context clues stop signs traffic jam loud music ouch that hurt my foot is on fire way to go eat some candy I love cats no, I hate cats it has no meaning! please do not read into that! it was the first words that came to my mind! It's too late, bye Sunday, September 19, 2004We're back
I guess this site took a little break for the weekend, but now it's back.
If you want to hop on over to http://bhsdrumline.port5.com then you will find a newly designed layout and much more, maybe not MUCH more, but it's still cool looking and I put it all together in like 3 days. Bikes are not fun to deal with. As good as they are at getting me to class faster and making parking easy to deal with, they also tend to have horribly messed up chains, uncomfortable seats, worn out tires, messed up gear shifters, and, most annoyingly, wheels that are so badly out of alignment that they scrape up against the metal wheel-mounting-bar-thingy causing a loud, motor-like roar and so much resistance that I might as well be at the rec center on an exersize bike since the thing comes to a complete halt due to this even without using the brake. I need to go to a bike shop. I need to wake up at 8, so I'll be on my way. Friday, September 17, 2004Hmmm....Thursday, September 16, 2004High Wind Warning
I guess that there is such a thing as a high wind warning, as we are in the middle of one right now. Awesome. It's been raining all day, and it is going to keep going until tomorrow night as it looks right now. That might interfere with band practice, but it looks like it won't be raining on "game day" (Saturday). Maybe I'll actually perform at a college football game this Saturday (as opposed to two weeks ago...)
Yes is one of those bands that are amazing when you first hear them, then they seem to get better as time goes on and you listen to disc one of the 35th anniversary collection for the 2,000th time. I think its about time to watch the Simpsons, though last night's episode will be hard to beat (the one about Smithers' Dad and Homer's horror at the old swimming hole), it was one of the best "new" (which means pretty much post-1998) episodes I've seen in a while. We'll see how tonights show is, won't we? Yes. Thursday, September 09, 2004BLABBERMOUTH.NET - DEFTONES Singer: New Album To Contain 'Way More Riffs'
BLABBERMOUTH.NET - DEFTONES Singer: New Album To Contain 'Way More Riffs'
Let's hope Chino's not BS-ing here, they need to make up for that not-so-good self titled album. Anyway, I'm going home this weekend, it's really my last chance to visit Brentwood before band starts playing lots of weekends in a row for football and/or competitions. Plus, I need to do my laundry since the landlord is being slow on fixing our dryer, or just finding a new one for us to buy. I am also planning on getting a HAIRCUT. That's right. Its too much of a hassle to grow your hair out. No matter what, my hair is going to look totally messed up if its long, since its got that natural curl factor going for it. If its short, I can get up and go to my 8:00 class without even combing it really. And I like that idea a lot. So short hair will be returning soon. Um, don't go to frat parties unless you like hanging out with a lot of guys. That's my opinion. Also, don't stay up until 2 the night before you have an 8:00 class. Try and wash your clothes more than once every 2 weeks. I also ordered the "Steve Howe, The Beginnings" CD on EBay. It has a version of what eventually became "Starship Trooper Part 3: Wurm", and some insane guitar playing is sure to exist on that CD too. Okay then, I think I may just go to sleep. Yep. Saturday, September 04, 2004Mitch Hedberg, Funny?
Yes.
Mitch put on about an hour long show, and I think I laughed for that entire time. Not only did he do some material I've never heard before, he threw in some old classics, some with additional punch lines (like the fire exit bit). He also had some great off-the-cuff remarks for all the freakin' kids yelling between every joke. He didn't get mad at them, but he did make fun of them. Yelling at a comedy show is stupid. Making requests at a comedy show is also stupid, you already know how the joke goes, and you won't laugh. Just let a comedian do his thing people. So last night seemed like it was about to be the dullest possible Friday night in history. After getting home from Chef Wangs and watching RATM's self titled DVD I slept until 6 or so. Then I watched TV. And ate pizza. That looked like that was about it. Then I got a call from my BRAND NEW friend Alysen at her friends' apartment. Ben and I went over there and things improved significantly. Karaoke? Yeah, that's right. Anyway, it was great, I met even more people and all that. And now it's Saturday and we've cleaned the house. And that's it for now. Thursday, September 02, 2004No trip to Florida
Thanks to Hurricane Francis, the MTSU Band of Blue will not go to Florida this weekend, but in October. How awesome is that? I mean, honestly, who wants to go to Florida? Oh wait, I did.
However...this means I will get to see Mitch Hedburg tonight for free at the Murphy Center. That is freaking awesome. I missed seeing him when he was at Zanies every time for the last two years, so yeah, I should have more fun than being stuck in a hurricane. Oh yeah, classes have started, and they aren't bad. Geology is boring so far, but my other classes are actually interesting. Imagine that, being interested in a class. Of course, they won't seem so cool after 12 more weeks (or however long these semesters are). I have a cell phone also. Finally. I would hate to give my number out on the internet, so I won't. E-Mail me if you really want to know it. I know everyone wants to call me, so I'll be checking my e-mail all the time now to hear from all of you............... Time to get ready for Mr. Hedburg and friends. Or just Mr. Hedburg. And friends, of me.
